Amex adds Uber Eats Pass for Green, Gold and Platinum, Uber Cash credit on Gold

With the new offer, Amex Gold cardmembers will have $340 in credits to spend in 2021

Summary:
American Express now offers a free year of Eats Pass membership on The Platinum Card® from American Express, the American Express® Gold Card, and the American Express® Green Card. Plus, Amex Gold cardholders are getting a new Uber Cash annual credit.

As credit card issuers have been adjusting to the new ways consumers spend their money amid the COVID-19 pandemic, some changes are becoming a bit more permanent.

American Express has been one of the top issuers when it comes to meeting cardholders’ shifting needs. This year, the issuer waived transfer fees for domestic airlines, offered valuable limited-time benefits, and extended the period to earn a welcome bonus.

Now Amex adds new perks on The Platinum Card® from American Express, the American Express® Gold Card, and the American Express® Green Card and a new benefit on the Gold card. The changes are great news for cardmembers who frequently order food delivery – especially those who prefer Uber Eats.

Complimentary Eats Pass membership from Uber

Amex Green, Gold, and Platinum cardholders now have access to a complimentary Eats Pass membership. This monthly subscription option for Uber Eats users costs typically $119 a year or $9.99 per month.

The membership comes with deals on restaurant takeout and grocery delivery, such as a $0 delivery fee (including grocery deliveries over $30 from select merchants) and 5% off restaurant orders over $15.

To use this offer and get up to 12 months of free Eats Pass, cardmembers need to enroll by Dec. 31, 2021.

New Uber Cash credit for Amex Gold cardholders

Amex Gold cardmembers are getting an even sweeter deal. On top of the new Eats Pass perk and the existing $120 annual dining credit, they will also get up to $120 per year in Uber Cash, starting in early 2021. The credits will be doled out in $10 monthly increments. (Note that unused credits won’t roll over in the next month.)

Tip: The new credit can be stacked with the existing 4-point-per-dollar rewards rate on the American Express Gold. For example, if you made a $30 Uber Eats order, you’d get $10 back and earn 80 points on the $20 difference.
Add this to the $100 airline fee credit, which can be applied toward incidental airline fees, including for checked bags and seat selection with an airline of your choice (expiring in January 2022), and American Express Gold cardholders can get up to $340 in annual credits in 2021. Considering the card only charges a $250 annual fee, it’s an excellent deal.

After next year, the new Uber Cash credit will essentially replace the airline fee credit. But since the airline credit might be hard to offset, especially since it doesn’t apply to airfare, the new Uber Cash benefit is a great replacement.

Is this a good time to apply for an American Express card?

If you’ve been considering getting an Amex, now might be a perfect time – especially with all the credits that come with the Amex Gold through 2021. Besides, the card is currently offering a 60,000 welcome bonus through CreditCards.com, and you might earn even more points if you apply through CardMatch™.
